Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology at CQUniversity Australia

There is no other academic entry requirement for the course. However, CQUniversity Australia recommends a Sound Achievement result in the literacy and numeracy subjects or their equivalent in year 10 before you enrol in this course. Think of it as a stepping stone for you to enter this industry or a pathway to an apprenticeship. For 2022, $5,880.00 is the fee for academic service in relation to this course.

Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology at TAFE South Australia

This is the course that you would have to study if you wish to be an automotive electrician, automotive electrical technician or automotive electrical diagnostic technician in Australia. The Automotive Electrician is the only automotive job that comes on the Skilled Occupation List of the Department of Home Affairs. The list contains a number of jobs that Australia requires to fill its skill shortages. However,  the Automotive Electrician is the only job in Australia that can qualify  

For the visa, the DHA requires the primary applicant to have completed a CRICOS-registered course associated with the job that appears on the said list. In this case, it means that you should study this automotive electrician course if you are applying for the visa.

The indicative tuition fee is $17,585.93 for this course. The program covers health and safety, repairing, customer relations as well as testing and servicing of all electrical system elements. If you enrol yourself in this course, you would have to undertake on-campus learning with full vaccination, in accordance with the Vaccination Policy of Kangan Institute. If you enrol in it as an apprenticeship component, you would have to have a job in the right industry before the course commences.

Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis at TAFE Western Australia

This course will teach you what it takes to do advanced diagnostic and repair services for light vehicles. From the course, you will gain the knowledge and skills you require for diagnosing complex issues with petrol engines, braking systems, test engines, and spark ignition (SI) engine management systems. In the program, you will do the following:

  • Service and analyse power supplies of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles
  • Repair drive assemblies and transmission systems
  • Deal with environmental compliance
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety laws

South Metropolitan TAFE will deliver the course on behalf of TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA). South Metropolitan TAFE has campuses in Kwinana and Carlisle.
To enrol in the course, you must have not only an IELTS academic score of at least 5.5 and a band score of 5.0 or more but also the AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology qualification. TIWA does not require work placement for admission into it, making it one of the most accessible automotive courses in Perth.

The tuition fee for the course is likely to be around $8,930, but you will probably have to pay about $1,530 as the resource fee too. The next intake is in February 2023, so the university might change the fees for this particular course by then.
