How to Create an Immiaccount

Are you planning to move to Australia or apply for an Australian visa and wondering where to start? Creating an ImmiAccount is your first step towards a streamlined immigration process. This online platform is essential for managing your applications, submitting necessary documents, and staying updated with your application status. Whether you're applying for a visa, citizenship, or just need to check your immigration status, an ImmiAccount makes the process straightforward and accessible. In this blog, we'll walk you through each step of creating your ImmiAccount online, ensuring you have all the information you need to get started on your Australian immigration journey.

How to Use ImmiAccount for Online Applications

ImmiAccount offers a wide range of online services for your convenience.

With ImmiAccount, you can:

  • Submit applications for visas or citizenship
  • Request an APEC Business Travel Card
  • Join the Australian Trusted Trader programme
  • Gain access to LEGENDcom
  • Ask for visitor access to detention facilities
  • Set up a Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) account for your organisation
  • View your organisation's education provider report, provided you're the principal executive officer.

However, please note that ImmiAccount should not be used to:

  • Apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)
  • Verify the status of your citizenship application if submitted via forms 1300t or 1290 before 17 April 2015.

Follow our guides to get started with ImmiAccount, submit your applications online, and efficiently manage them.

How to create an ImmiAccount?

For Individuals:

If you're applying on your own, assisting a family member with their application, or a friend lending a hand in the application process, you can set up a personal ImmiAccount.

For Organisations:

Organisations, registered migration agents, or companies looking to sponsor applicants can establish an organisational ImmiAccount to manage their applications.

How to Create an Individual ImmiAccount?

To initiate your personal ImmiAccount, click on "Create an ImmiAccount."

Step 1: Input your email address.

Step 2: Type in the verification code sent to your email.

Step 3: Fill in your user information.

  • Choose 'Individual'
  • Fill in your personal information
  • Click 'Continue'.

Step 4: Provide account specifics.

  • Complete the required fields
  • Make sure to read and agree to the 'ImmiAccount terms and conditions'
  • Tick the box to confirm 'I am not a robot'
  • Press ‘Submit’
  • Upon successful login, you'll see a 'Login successful' message. Click 'Continue'.

Once your account is set up, you'll be able to:

  • Submit applications
  • Request access to services for organisations
  • Utilise LEGENDcom (an annual subscription is needed).

How to Create an Organisation ImmiAccount?

To initiate an organisation ImmiAccount, click on "Create an ImmiAccount."

Step 1: Provide your email address.

Step 2: Type in the verification code received via email.
Step 3: Fill in user information.

  • Choose 'Organisation'
  • Tick the boxes for the services you require
  • Enter your organisation's details
  • Click 'Continue' to proceed to the next section of the form.

Step 4: Complete account specifics.

  • Fill in the account information
  • Read the 'ImmiAccount terms and conditions' carefully and agree by ticking the box
  • Confirm you're not a robot by ticking the respective box
  • Hit ‘Submit’

A 'Login successful' message will appear. Click 'Continue'.

Step 5: Awaiting Approval

Your request for an organisation ImmiAccount will need approval. This can happen in two ways:

  • An Organisation Account Administrator (OAA) from your organisation will approve it if:
    • Your organisation has an appointed OAA
    • You've only requested 'Online Lodgement'
  • They will send a reminder to the OAA after 7 working days if there's no approval.

They will directly approve your organisation ImmiAccount if:

  • It's been approved by an OAA, or
  • Your organisation isn't yet registered in ImmiAccount, or
  • You've opted for 'Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO)'

Approval for an organisation ImmiAccount typically takes up to 4 working days.

Until approval, your account status will remain as ‘Individual’.

How to Sign In to Your ImmiAccount

To sign into ImmiAccount:

  • Visit the ImmiAccount webpage.
  • Input your Username and Password.
  • Click ‘Login’.

Trouble logging in? Use the ‘forgot my ImmiAccount username or password’ options or seek assistance from your Organisation Account Administrator before reaching out for further help.

Username and Password Tips:

  • Usernames are unique and permanent.
  • Incorrect login attempts (5 times) will lock the account for 4 hours. Use the ‘forgot password’ option and answer security questions to unlock.
  • Forgotten usernames can be retrieved by following the ‘forgot my username’ link, entering the associated email, and checking your inbox for recovery instructions.
  • For a forgotten password, follow the ‘forgot my password’ link, input your username, and check your email for reset instructions. Answer security questions to regain access.

If emails aren’t received, check spam folders or verify the email address linked to the ImmiAccount. Contact support for unresolved access issues or to update email information.

Steps to Manage your Individual ImmiAccount

Adjusting Account Type:

  • Sign into ImmiAccount and go to ‘Manage Account’.
  • Choose ‘Request access’ and under ‘Request additional services’, pick the needed organisation services.
  • Fill in organisation details and submit. Remember, selecting 'Online Lodgement' is crucial to retain application access after an account type change.

Updating Password:

  • Change passwords regularly for security (every 180 days for individuals, 90 days for organisations) by navigating to 'Manage Account' > 'Password' tab, entering current and new passwords, and saving.

Modifying Secret Questions:

  • Update secret questions and answers via 'Manage Account' > 'Secret questions' tab, inputting your password, selecting new questions and answers, and confirming the update.

Altering Email Address:

  • Change your email in 'Account Details' tab, verify the new email with the code received to confirm the update.

Customising Alert Preferences:

  • Adjust email notifications for name changes, password updates, or logins under 'Alert preferences', selecting desired alerts and saving.

Accessing Your ImmiAccount

To log in, visit the ImmiAccount portal, enter your username and password, and click 'Login'. If you encounter login issues, use the 'forgotten username or password' links or contact your Organisation Account Administrator (OAA) for assistance.

Managing Your ImmiAccount

  • Changing Account Type
If you've mistakenly created an individual account instead of an organisation account, you can request a change through the 'Manage Account' section.

  • Updating Password and Security Questions
Regularly update your password and secret questions for enhanced security. Individual accounts should update passwords every 180 days, while organisation accounts should do so every 90 days.

  • Updating Email and Alert Preferences
You can change your email address and alert preferences anytime to ensure you stay informed about important account activities.

Managing Organisation ImmiAccounts

Organisation Account Administrators (OAA) play a vital role in managing user access, resetting passwords, and handling account suspensions or removals.

Applying and Managing Your Application in ImmiAccount

ImmiAccount enables you to start new applications, continue saved ones, import applications, and manage your application process efficiently. Always read the visa or citizenship guidelines thoroughly before applying.

Attaching Documents to Your Application in ImmiAccount

The type and timing of document attachments vary by application. Ensure documents are clear and meet the specified size and format requirements. You can attach up to 60 documents per person for most applications, with a higher limit for partner visa applications.

Paying for Online Applications

ImmiAccount supports various payment methods, including credit card, PayPal, UnionPay, and BPAY. Ensure your financial institution is aware of the payment to avoid declines. Online payments are processed in Australian dollars (AUD).

After Submitting Your Application

Use ImmiAccount to check messages, update details, notify about changes in circumstances, and check the status of your application. If necessary, you can also withdraw your application through ImmiAccount.

Common Issues and Solutions

Encountering issues with ImmiAccount, such as system maintenance, payment errors, or attachment problems, can be frustrating. Check for common issues and solutions in the 'Help' section or contact support for assistance.
