What is Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) ?  

Subclass 190 is a permanent visa for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government in Australia. It is a point-tested visa for skilled candidates whose occupation features in the relevant occupation list of the state or territory they are applying for.

Eligibility

To apply for Subclass 190 visa, here are the eligibility requirements

  • Be aged between 18 and 44
  • Have a relevant occupation on the 190 visa occupation list
  • Be nominated by an Australian state or territory
  • Have your skills assessed by the authorities
  • Meet the required 65 PR points
  • Meet English language requirements
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Express EOI via Skill Select 

How to apply?

The process is similar to that of other visas. You need to express your interest (EOI) via the Skill Select platform. You can be either in or outside Australia while expressing interest.

If you are in Australia, you must be on Bridging visa A, B or C while applying for the 190 Visa.

The Skill Select platform will estimate your points based on the information and supporting documents you provide. The higher the points, the quicker will be your invitation.

Each state and territory in Australia has its own list of in-demand occupations. The skill and English language requirements may vary for the same occupation between any two states. When your points are higher and your profile is better, state and territory governments would nominate you.

You will receive an invite to apply for the Visa when a state or territory nominates you. Within 60 days of receiving your invitation, you should apply for the visa. 

Cost and Processing time

The cost for the main applicant of this visa is AUD4,115. On top of this fee, you might need to also pay for health checkups, police certificates and biometrics.

There would also be additional charges for each family member who applies for the visa with you.

If a family member is 18 years of age or older and has less than functional English (IELTS score of 4.5). This charge is called Second Installment which costs you AUD4,890 and you need to pay only if you are going to be granted the visa.

The visa processing time is currently 14 to 17 months.

 If your application is successful, you will be communicated in writing

  • Visa grant letter
  • The date your visa starts
  • Your visa conditions

In case of rejection, you will also be communicated why your application was rejected and whether you can apply for a review of the decision or not.
