PR Pathway for Psychologists in Australia

Psychologists have multiple PR pathways in Australia. Psychology features in the medium and long term strategic skills list. So, there are multiple permanent visa options for skilled psychology graduates. Here are the steps to obtain PR in Australia for a psychologist. 

The first step in your PR application process is to be positively assessed for your skills by APS (Australian Psychological Society). To be positively assessed for your skills,

  • You must have completed 6 years of study in Psychology in Australia or up to Australian standards  
  • A minimum score of 7 in all components of IELTS examination

Once your assessment is positive, you can go ahead and express your interest in PR via skillselect. If you possess the required PR points, you will be invited to apply for a visa.

Potential permanent visas for psychologists 

If you possess sufficient PR points, you could apply for one of the following permanent visas.

  • Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa
  • Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa
  • Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa
  • Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional Visa)
  • Subclass 191 -Permanent Residence Skilled Regional Visa
  • Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme Visa
